William H. Gross Collection
France and Colonies, German Offices and Colonies,
Italian States and Spain
Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. – (Lots 1 – 159)
Once again, another impressive collection formed by William H. Gross – his collection of France and Colonies, German Offices and Colonies, Italian States and Spain – will be sold at unreserved public auction in New York City. And, again, both Sue and Bill Gross demonstrate their remarkable generosity by donating this sale’s entire proceeds to benefit Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières Emergency Relief Fund.
The Gross Collection of France and Colonies, German Offices and Colonies, Italian States and Spain is a remarkable assemblage of highly desirable and seldom seen rarities of Western Europe and its Colonies. There is no question this sale will generate great interest in these collecting areas.
The Gross Collection of France and Colonies, German Offices and Colonies, Italian States and Spain will be appropriately honored and preserved in a special hardbound all-color auction catalog. It has been similarly designed much like his catalogs for the now famous sales of his magnificent Great Britain collection (which in 2007, realized the highest amount for any single stamp auction ever conducted), his Scandinavia collection in May of 2008, his British Empire from October 2008, his British North America in November of 2009 and his Confederate States of America Postmasters’ Provisionals in November of 2009. These and any future Gross Collection sales catalogs will certainly form an incomparable “set” for any philatelic library.

Catalogs for The Gross Collection of France and Colonies, German Offices and Colonies, Italian States and Spain will be available on April 23rd, for $40.00 each ($55.00 to non-U.S. addresses). Orders may be placed online using a credit card at www.SpinkShreves.com or by calling 800-556-7826 or 972-788-2100, email (
shreves@spink.com) or by filling out an order form found on our "Auction Catalog" page and then clicking on the
Order Current Catalog button.
The entire sale, complete with detailed descriptions and high-resolution color images, has now been posted to our website.
